Single-use plastic straws are a danger for whales, fish, sea turtles, and other marine wildlife. Right now, the Single-use Plastic Straw Ban can help protect New York’s waters from plastic pollution.
This bill would prevent food establishments in New York City from offering consumers single-use beverage straws or stirrers made of plastic unless a request for a “plastic straw” has been made by the consumer. Food service establishments would still be allowed to offer consumers single-use and reusable straws that are safe for the environment. It also includes an exemption that requires food service establishments to provide appropriate straws for people with disabilities without inquiry.
Make your voice heard. Tell the New York City Council: the Single-use Plastic Straw Ban is a lifeline for New York’s waters and wildlife.
