The threats gorillas face are very real. In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, war and insecurity over the past two decades have had a devastating impact on Grauer's gorillas. A recent analysis of WCS surveys between 1996 and 2015 showed that their numbers have declined by a staggering 77% in those two decades- a single gorilla generation. Among gorillas, they are not alone in facing an uncertain future: a WCS-led analysis on the other side of the African continent showed that Western Lowland Gorillas are losing 2.7% of their numbers every year.
We’ve set a bold goal for gorillas and other endangered species: raise $25,000 in honor of World Gorilla Day, September 24th.
