Sharks and rays are one of the oldest and most diverse groups of animals on earth. These vulnerable creatures are an integral part of the world’s biodiversity, but many species are at risk of disappearing. At least one quarter of all shark and ray species are threatened with extinction, which is primarily the result of overfishing. Sharks Pacific is working hard to change that. They partner with local communities, fishermen, scientists and policy makers to understand sharks and rays in Pacific waters—and to assist in the development of effective policies to protect vulnerable species. Importantly, the team is working to ensure that there’s a new generation of Pacific-born and bred marine biologists and conservationists to carry the torch.
Your generosity allows Sharks Pacific to continue their urgent work to save these ecologically important animals, and to train and inspire a new generation. Without your support, this work would not be possible.
Wildlife Conservation Society is a fiscal sponsor of Sharks Pacific, providing financial oversight and other services. When you donate to Wildlife Conservation Society and direct your contribution to Sharks Pacific, you will support the work of Sharks Pacific to understand the importance of sharks in Pacific communities, and to advocate for the conservation and responsible management of sharks and the related marine environment through research, outreach, and advocacy. A big Meitaki Ma’ata (thank you!) for your contribution to Sharks Pacific’s mission.
