Poaching, trafficking, and illegal trade endanger hundreds of vulnerable species.
Changes in climate jeopardize biodiversity and the health of entire ecosystems.
Logging, mining, burning: human encroachment destroys homes and havens for wildlife.
For 125 years, WCS has been dedicated to saving wildlife and wild places, powered by the expertise and science in our zoos, aquarium, and global conservation program.
We focus on protecting the planet’s most important, ecologically intact places with the greatest biodiversity and resilience to climate change.
The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to care. We work in nearly 60 countries around the globe to protect both wildlife and the habitats they depend on. In fact, the habitat we protect shelters more than half of all life on Earth!
WCS is a global organization headquartered in New York City, where we proudly manage five AZA-accredited parks: Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and the New York Aquarium. AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums meet the highest standards of animal care and welfare and are an important part of our conservation work. Additionally, we have teams conserving habitats and protecting wildlife on the ground in 14 priority regions across the world.
In our New York wildlife parks, our vets, and keepers care for wide-ranging species from tiny frogs to magnificent tigers. These facilities play important conservation roles, including maintaining sustainable populations of endangered species, rescuing and rehabilitating animals, and helping to advance veterinary health globally.
In the field, we have a special focus on the conservation of six global priority animal groups across their range: elephants, apes, big cats, sharks and rays, cetaceans, and freshwater turtles and tortoises.
