Whales rely on sound to survive and prosper. They use it to navigate the ocean and communicate with each other.
That’s why offshore drilling activities like seismic airgun surveys, which increase noise in the ocean, are a major issue for marine life. Increasing human activity along the east coast is already exposing endangered species like the North Atlantic right whale to increased underwater noise and other stressors.
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), under the leadership of the new Administration, has decided to restart the permitting process for seismic oil and gas surveys in the Atlantic, which could be granted before the end of the summer.
Time is running out but you can still make a difference. NMFS is accepting comments on these permits for seismic surveys. Tell NMFS that you want whales protected from ocean noise!
