Petition urging U.S. Contribution to the GCF Replenishment
Dear [President Biden],

We, the undersigned wildlife supporters and conservation enthusiasts, write to you with a shared concern for wildlife, biodiversity, and the future of our planet. As passionate advocates for the protection of wildlife and the integrity of natural ecosystems, we call upon your administration to take a strong stance on addressing climate change by making a significant contribution to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Second Replenishment.

Climate change is not only an environmental issue; it is also an existential threat to countless species across the globe. Rising temperatures, habitat loss, extreme weather events, disrupted migration patterns and spillover of disease from animals to people, are just a few of the wildlife related challenges due to climate change. The GCF is a crucial international initiative that provides funding to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change, ultimately safeguarding biodiversity and preventing the spillover of pathogens from animals to people. GCF has already made crucial investments in food and water security, forest and land use, ecosystems and ecosystem services, and more.

We urge your administration to pledge to the GCF Second Replenishment and meet its $11.4 billion climate finance pledge by 2024. We request a substantial contribution to GCF-2 be considered a priority for the following reasons:

Protecting Species and Ecosystems: Biodiverse ecosystems play a vital role in stabilizing our climate. By contributing to the GCF, the United States can help preserve the intactness of functioning natural habitats and protect endangered species from further harm. This would also help meet the goal of protecting 30% of nature by 2030.

Partnering with Local Communities and Indigenous People: Tackling climate change will require a vast coalition of partners each with their own special skills. Partnering with local communities and Indigenous Peoples leverages their knowledge and assists in building resilience. GCF is committed to supporting local communities most at risk from climate impacts.

Global Leadership: The U.S. has a history of leading global climate and conservation efforts. By pledging to the GCF Second Replenishment, the U.S. can demonstrate its commitment to climate and biodiversity stewardship and inspire other nations to follow suit.

Ecotourism and Economic Benefits: Healthy ecosystems and thriving wildlife are essential for tourism and local economies. By investing in climate resilience, we can protect these economic drivers.

We, the undersigned wildlife supporters, stand united in our belief that taking strong action on climate change is vital for the survival of countless species. Your commitment to this cause would not only serve as a beacon of hope for wildlife enthusiasts but also as a powerful symbol of America's dedication to preserving the natural world.

Sincerely,
