Support a NYC pilot program
Dear [Councilmember], Councilmember Bottcher, and Mayor Adams,

I urge you to support Int. 10-2024, a bill introduced by Councilmember Erik Bottcher that will establish a pilot program to install drinking fountains on fire hydrants in all boroughs. This initiative showcases how cities can leverage existing infrastructure to foster sustainable behaviors in our daily lives while reducing plastic pollution and protecting both people and wildlife.

Int. 10-2024 will install drinking fountains on at least 5 fire hydrants per borough, and the drinking fountains shall be operational at least from April to September each year during the two-year duration of the program. After the pilot program completes, agency commissioners will submit a recommendation report to the Mayor and City Council Speaker on results of the program including challenges and issues.

This program will make great strides in New York City continuing in its efforts to eliminate single-use plastics from the waste stream and I encourage your support.

Sincerely,
