Starting just 100 miles southeast of the Statue of Liberty is a magnificent underwater canyon—the Hudson Canyon—home to hundreds of extraordinary species including whales, dolphins, sharks, and deep sea corals. This special place also supports thousands of ocean-related jobs in New York and New Jersey.

As you know, there is a lot at stake here, and it's critical that the designation as a National Marine Sanctuary moves forward quickly. Vulnerable species are counting on all of us to permanently protect them from oil, gas, and mineral exploration and extraction.
